Home learning Wednesday 9 th March
Kia ora Room 12
Home Learning has begun! It is optional and needs to be negotiated between student and parents. I will check all work that is handed in, but not chase uncompleted work. :)
Each term I will send an overview of what is expected throughout the term along with smaller tasks every few weeks. If you and your family have chosen to participate in home learning then YOU need to hand in the tasks fortnightly for me to mark so I can give you feedback about how you are going.
My expectation of you, as Year 7 & 8 students, is that you will manage your time and home learning effectively and hand all tasks in on time (unless you have negotiated another date previously).
Home learning is meant to support your ‘at school’ learning. Please make sure you always clarify anything you are unsure or confused about. I like to answer your questions- it’s part of my job!
What I expect from you if you are participating in our home learning programme...
- I expect you to bury yourself in a great book and read it regularly!
- You should be practising the maths we are working on in class! Either in the workbooks provided, IXL website or Khan Academy website. Maths is Fun website is also a great place to get explanations and activities that support your learning.
- Inquiry learning is an important part of our programme and you should be thinking about your ‘inquiry’ at home as well as at school. Use your community, whanau and friends to help you investigate your lines of inquiry and always keep your thinking focussed on the central idea. We are currently wrapping up our current inquiry but that doesn’t mean you should stop learning about the area you are interested in. Once you feel like a bit of an expert, think about what you might do with your knowledge. Consider taking some sort of action- (so what can I do about it?) and make sure you share your wonderful ideas with ME!
- There will usually be literacy tasks based around editing, spelling, and/ or punctuation and grammar. These are part of your fortnightly home learning and need to be returned to school to be marked.
