Kiera's diary writing

Kiera's diary writing

I am proud of my diary writing about Charles Darwin. We had to research about a explorer and write a diary of theirs. I wrote about Charles Darwin's voyage around the world. I am proud of it  because of how it has so much of detail and descriptions of how he felt and what it was like. I also like how I presented it Paper with coffee splattered on it to make it look old.

27th December 1831

Today thanks to John Henslow, who put together the British Navy map I was able to be launched on the HMS Beagle among a crew of seventy-three men. But now I am having second thoughts as I feel sea sick.
I was launched out of Plymouth harbor under a calm easterly wind and drizzly rain. I wish to visit south america, Galápagos Islands, and Africa islands. I am going to collect a variety of plants, animals, fossils and the natural world.

4th January 1832

So far it has all been smooth sailing, the weather has been mostly good. And I have arrived near Madeira Island, on its first port-of-call.

6th January 1832

Today I woke up do a bright shining sun and I am about an hour away from Santa Cruz on Tenerife Island. where I wish to visit my dear friend Ramsay.

6th January 1882

When we arrived at Santa Cruz, unfortunately the Health Office came and told us we were prevented from going ashore, due to a cholera outbreak in England and would have to wait twelve days. But  no matter how much I protest, captain FitzRoy was eager that no time would be lost on their primary mission. So the ship proceeded to the Cape Verde Islands. I was devastated that I would not get to see my friend Ramsay.

17th March 1833

I am thankful that the weather has been good for the last few days. I have arrived at the  Galapagos Islands in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, I am planning to stay here for 5 weeks. I will make observations of the evidence of my evolving theory.

19th April 1833

Today, I observed that a species of Galápagos bird differed from one other in beak size and shape. I also noted that the beak varieties were associated with diets based on different foods. I have not yet put together my evidence but I still believe in biblical creation of all life forms.

7th October 1834

I have been rocked around the last few days with the weather being so bad but I have enjoyed visiting the islands. Over the past four years I have closely observed principles of botany and geology.

13th August 1835

I haven't been able to write recently because I have been ill, but over the past few months I have been putting all my information together and eventually came up with a theory for the South American finches. I believe that when the original South American finches reached the islands, they went to different environments, where they had to adapt to different conditions.  Over many generations, they changed anatomically in ways that allowed them to get enough food and to survive to reproduce. The combination of traits that allow them to survive and produce more offspring, then in turn enable them to survive and reproduce.

6th April 1836
I have made detailed records of my observations, and I plan to write my own book in the years to come. I am sailing back to England.
