By Suzanne Collins
This book is a must read. It is absolutely thrilling and grips you on so easily, so you don’t want to stop. It is the most nerve-racking book I have ever read and it is so moving.
Some people recommend it for ages 16+ because it contains gruesome and violent scenes including naked people and drugs. Lots of people recommended parents reading it before their kids because it has given lot’s of kids nightmares and disrupted them in their sleep however lots of younger teenagers say it’s fine. I am 12 and I find it absolutely fine with people my age although I would not recommend people under the age of 11 to read this.
What have others said:
“the hunger games is a violent, jarring speed rap of a novel that generates nearly constant… I couldn’t stop reading.” (Stephan King)
“I was so obsessed with this book I had to take it out with me to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn’t have to stop reading. This story kept me up for several nights in a row, because even after I was finished I just lay in bed wide awake thinking about it.... The hunger games is amazing.” (stephenie meyer author of twilight saga)
“Brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced.... Engrossing” (John Green New York times review)
This book is one of a kind for me, it grips you on so easily and the author makes it feel alive and real. The way it controls your mind and fixes you on the story is amazing. The main character (Katniss) is so involved and the author describes her so well you can easily see her in your mind as you read the book, it makes you entwined with your emotions that you can really feel the adrenalin and the character’s feelings and emotions.
The main and most consistently mentioned characters are: Katniss Everdeen,Haymitch,Peeta, Prim Everdeen, Katniss’ mum,Effie Trinket and Cinna.
Each have very different characters and are all completely different from each other, for example, Effie is a posh selfish care about one thing type of person.
The plot is about Katniss trying to survive in the arena and keep her loved ones alive as she fights to the death in the deadly Hunger Games with 23 other opponents willing to kill to survive.
The setting takes place in district 12 which is a small dark boring place with courtyards and a very plain meadow with woods surrounding it. District 12 is quite different from other districts.
