Taylor's Book Review

The Hunger Games Review

The Hunger Games is a very good book written by Suzanne Collins. It is set in what was once North America, but is now Panem. The Capitol is the heart of Panem, surrounded by 12 Districts. Katniss Everdeen, 16, volunteers to fight to the death in the Hunger Games after her 12 year old sister Prim was chosen to compete. The Hunger Games is an annual event that involves a boy and a girl from each district that have to fight to the death. The winner will be crowned the victor and receive a life of luxury. Fuelled by her hatred towards the Capitol and her love for her sister, Katniss promises Prim she will win.
On her journey she encounters Haymitch, her constantly drunk mentor, Effie, her gracious but oblivious escort, Cinna, her kind and caring stylist, and Peeta, the boy with the bread.
In the arena she makes do with a bright orange backpack and a few small gifts from sponsors, but it isn’t until she gets her hands on a bow that things really get going for her. But will she keep Prim's promise and win everything, or will she fail and lose it all?
I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked Suzanne’s writing style because it made you feel like you were right next to Katniss the whole time. It was like you could see everything she saw and feel everything she felt. I would rate this book 5 stars.
