Juggling with Mandarins
By V.M.Jones
I enjoyed Juggling with Mandarins because there were bits when Pip (Phillip) the main character has a lot of mixed emotions throughout the book, and when you have to stop at the end of a chapter it leaves you in suspense and mystery. It is an amazing book.
There are a few main characters. There is Phillip who is the main main character that the book is based on there is also Katie. Katie I think is Phillip’s crush but in the end there is a massive twist. There is also Phillip’s Dad, Mum, big brother and little sister. His dad pushes Philip a lot and wants him to be a champion football, his mum wants Philip to be successful and happy. His older brother is mostly just there to embarrass him and he is also a football superstar, his younger sister is happy most of the time and is struggling to learn to walk. There are a few other side characters like Jordan Archer (Philip’s rival), Michael (Philip’s best friend), Philip’s mentor, and Philip’s very good friend Beattie. Philip has a struggle he has to hide a deep secret from his Father which may or may not be revealed.
At one point in the book you found out that a football scout was coming to Philip football match Philip was very exited and was sure he would get into the zones and then maybe have a small chance to get into the highlands football team (that’s where all the best football players go). Philip had a challenge at school to juggle three mandarins for twenty seconds without stopping His friend Michael had an advantage because he had already learned how to juggle all he had to do was do it for twenty seconds and he would get a gift voucher for the school diary Philip was determined to get a voucher so for a long period of time he started teaching himself how to juggle eventually he figured out how to juggle three and then thought that three wasn’t enough so he tried four and got it and then again thought that he needed to push himself and try five, but will he get it?
